The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have received the proposal to include women's boxing in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, the Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) said on Tuesday.
The inclusion of this discipline in the Beijing Olympics will be voted on at the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee on October 26-28, at Laussane, Switzerland.
An IABA spokesperson said there are chances that the proposal be approved by the IOC, as boxing is the only sport without women's representation and counts with the support of IOC President Jacques Rogge.
In previous years, IOC included women in disciplines that had been traditionally reserved for men, such as wrestling and weightlifting.
Meanwhile the Chinese Boxing Association have expressed its support for female boxers to participate in Beijing Games.
In case IOC vote against the proposal during the coming meeting, IABA hoped the discipline could be admitted in London 2012.
