Li Leads Chinese Team for Gymnastics Worlds

Double Olympic champion Li Xiaopeng will spearhead a 10-strong Chinese team for the Melbourne world gymnastics championships held on August 16-24.

The final lineup was revealed on Monday and Chinese men's squad dispatches mainly youngsters for the tournament, first major battle after their Athens Olympic waterloo last year.

Except for Li and world champion Xiao Qin, the other four members- Liang Fuliang, Chen Yibing, Yan Mingyong, and Zhang Hongtao are relatively new faces on international arena.

However, women's lineup includes four experienced aces Zhang Nan,Fan Ye, Cheng Fei and Zhang Yufei.

Gao Jian, head of the Chinese Gymnastics Association, said they aimed to test young gymnasts and to learn from the other teams instead of snatching gold medals.

"Each team has gone through adaptation and reorganization after the Athens Games and is more or less out of form. So the real competition will kick off next year, when the new rule is formally implemented," he said.
