Athens Olympic champion Liu Xiang will quit the upcoming national indoor track and field meet in Shanghai due to an injury.

Liu, the world record co-holder of the men's 110-meter hurdles, sprained his ankle during training on Wednesday.

The national meet will open this Saturday, and Liu was scheduled to run in the men's 60-meter hurdles race.

He was disqualified after his second false-start in the final during last year's meet.
