Zeng Zhaoyu of Liaoning province broke the national record to win the title of the men's 4km individual pursuit final at the Chinese National Cycling Tournament on July 21.

Zeng clocked four minutes 33 seconds to set the new record, beating Qu Xuelong from Tianjin to take the first gold of this tournament.

"Seldom did I beat Qu. He is still the best pursuit specialist in China. I was just lucky today to win the gold," said Zeng.

Qu, who used to be one member of the Tianjin's pursuit team, demonstrated his speed after winning the gold of the men's individual pursuit at the national championships last week.

"I felt a bit tired today. I just competed in the national championships last week. Zeng did better than me today," said Qu.

Qu's teammate Li Wei beat Xue Mingxing of Heilongjiang province to take the bronze.
