China's top-seeded Lin Dan defeated compatriot Lai Chao in straight sets at the opening round of the 2007 International Badminton Tournament at the Beijing University of Technology (BUT) Gymnasium in Beijing

Lin Dan breezed past Lai Chao with a straight 21-12, 21-7 victory. Lin finished the game in 18 minutes with jump smashes and sharp-angled shots that had the crowd roaring its approval.

A total of 119 athletes from Malaysia, Germany, Austria, Vietnam and China are competing in men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

The tournament, being held from October 10-14, is among a series of test events for Beijing 2008 Olympics.
