New York Giants David Tyree celebrates his touchdown during the fourth quarter of the NFL's Super Bowl XLII football game against the New England Patriots in Glendale, Arizona Feb. 3, 2008.

The New York Giants took the Vince Lombardi Trophy by upsetting the New England Patriots 17-14 in the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl XLII in the University of Phoenix Stadium, Arizona, on Sunday.

Eli Manning, MVP winner of the Super Bowl, hit Plaxico Burress on a 13-yard throw with 35 seconds left and the Giants ended the Patriots' bid to complete an unprecedented 19-0 record for the season while they won the trophy for the third time in the 42-year-old Super Bowl history.

The Super bowl, usually the most-watched U.S. television broadcast, is the NFL championship game in the United States, featuring the champions of the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC), which are determined each season by the league's playoff tournament.

The Patroits, champion of AFC, came from 3-0 down in the first quarter by finishing the first half at 7-3.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Giants rallied back by touching down and led at 10-7 just four minutes into the final quarter. The Patroits regained the lead by 14-10, throwing their archrivals just two minutes 45 seconds left.

The fighting Giants never gave up their hope and led again by Plaxico Burress' touchdown at 17-14, leaving their opponents no chance to fight back with the match just 39 seconds to go.
