China Opposes Any Kind of Independence in Taiwan

China's State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan has reiterated the nation's one-China policy, saying activities aimed at independence in Taiwan will not be tolerated.

Tang Jiaxuan conveyed the message while receiving Taiwan's United Daily News Group delegation this morning in Beijing. He noted that the recent referendum rally held by the Taiwan authorities only serves to expose their attempts to legalize their attempt to make a constitution for the island.

He added that such rallies would strain relations between people on both sides of the Straits and do great harm to the social stability of the island. He stressed that the Taiwan authorities should attach more importance to cross-Straits economic cooperation and people-to-people exchanges. He said that the separatist attempt would be renounced by Chinese people all over the world.
