More than 100,000 people near the popular Huangshan Mountain in east China's Anhui Province have been affected by a rainstorm that began to hit the area on Monday evening, local authorities said.

The Huangshan District received 312.4 mm of rain from 9:00 p.m. on Monday to 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. The rainstorm led to the collapse of a bridge, several landslides and power cuts in many villages, said officials with the Huangshan Meteorological Bureau.

The rainstorm also caused flooding on farmland and destroyed many homes.

The neighboring counties of Qimen, Xiuning, Jingxian were also hit by the rainstorm.

Local authorities have warned residents against possible landslides, mud and rock in mountainous areas. More than 2,000 people have been relocated to safe areas.

Disaster relief officials are evaluating losses caused by the rainstorm.

More rains are forecast over the next two days.

Huangshan Mountain is famous for its geological landscapes of granite peaks. It is listed as a World Heritage Site and has become a major tourist attraction.
