The International Energy Conservation Environmental Protection Association (IEEPA) will host the Third World Environmental Conference in Beijing on July 28 to 30, the organization announced Thursday at a press conference.

The conference will be co-sponsored by the World Wind Energy Association, the China Society of Urban Economy, the China Petroleum and Petrochemical Equipment Industry Association.

"As we move forward, one aspect we could not overlook is more world cooperation on these issues," said Blake Margison, an IEEPA spokesman. "Climate change and pollution are not things faced by one country individually but by all countries. As the population continues to grow and technology advances, the world is smaller now than ever before. East and West, although very different in culture, are facing the same issues and have much to learn from each other."

Li Junyang, CEO of IEEPA, said the conference aims to influence energy conservation, environmental protection and low-carbon economy in China.

With 10 forums, the conference is expected to attract 800 to 1,000 participants, Li said. So far there have been 20 organizations around the world expressing their cooperative will, and 10 of the world's top 500 companies making a request to speak at the conference.

The press conference also marked the first anniversary of the "Green World" initiative. Margison called on people again to take a more active role in environmental protection.

"Together, enterprises and individuals take social responsibility as a key business and social practice co-building a green world," Margison said. "‘Green World' not only focuses on commercial industry but also believes that education and knowledge for the common people of China is equally important. Teaching responsible habits and proper education at a young age can lead to a long-life commitment to environmental protection."

Green World, launched last year on Earth Day by the IEEPA, is an initiative to promote energy conservation and environmental protection.
