A layer of an unknown black substance covered large portions of a beach in Qingdao, Shandong Province, on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011. The black materials are suspected as the leaking oil from U.S. oil firm ConocoPhillips's platforms in Bohai Bay, first reported to authorities in June. The oil spills have spread to beaches in Hebei and Liaoning provinces, according to Xinhua. Local residents in Qingdao have stopped swimming in the area. [icpress.cn]
