Oil spills are considered to be one of the most harmful man-made ecological disasters, which can wreck havoc on entire marine environments. The following were the worst oil disasters worldwide in 2011.
1 Mumbai-Uran pipeline spill
Location: Mumbai, India
Date: January 21 2011
Amount: About 25,000 barrels of oil
The leak, discovered on Jan. 21 in India's Arabian Sea, was about 80km (50 miles) from the western city of Mumbai. It was plugged after two hours and oil was diverted through another pipeline. About 25,000 barrels of oil had been lost. The leakIn August, a tanker collided with a ship off Mumbai, spilling about 500 tonnes of oil into the Arabian Sea.
