An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck off eastern Indonesia on Wednesday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.
The epicenter of the quake which jolted at 06:42 a.m. Jakarta time (23:42 GMT Tuesday) is located at 101 km northwest of Kepulauan Aru in Maluku province with a depth of 10 km under seabed, the agency said.
The U.S. Geological Survey measured the earthquake 5.7 on the Richter scale.
Indonesia sits on the so-called "Pacific Ring of Fire"which is vulnerable to quake and volcano.
