Storms cut off power to thousands of homes in Texas

Thousands of homes and businesses were without power and dozens of flights canceled when strong storms swept north Texas, the state's electricity provider said Thursday.

The outages stretched from Sherman to the Dallas-Fort Worth and into central Texas, according to ABC news.

Oncor Electric said more than 14,000 customers were without power as crews work to restore service.

Strong winds damaged the roof of an apartment complex in Forth- Worth on Wednesday, and no body was hurt, according to the ABC report.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines on Thursday canceled 35 flights to and from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. The carrier also canceled 140 flights on Wednesday.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in northern and central Texas until Friday, the U.S. National Weather Service said.
