Chemical leakage turns villages red in Shandong

Rhodamine becomes dark red when mixing with water. [Photo/angencies]  



A bag of rhodamine that fell off a vehicle on the expressway turned two villages of Jinan, capital city of eastern China’s Shandong province, to red on the morning of September 18. The dropped rhodamine was run over and over by the passing vehicles, making its light pink powder scattered and become dark red when mixing with water. Rhodamine is used in cosmetics and not harmful to health.
