Tornadoes hit Southern and Midwestern US

A massive storm system affecting Southern and Midwestern United States spawned several tornadoes Wednesday, inflicting heavy damage to the state of Georgia, and killing at least two people in the region, U.S. media reports said.

The most damaging tornado hit Adairsville, Ga., according to a report by NBC. It quoted the Georgia State Patrol as saying the twister overturned cars, littered Interstate 75 with debris, and forced officials to shut down a 10-mile stretch of the road.
Buildings in nearby Bartow, Ga., some with people inside, were also damaged in the storm, and police have received multiple calls of injuries and trauma, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. One person died in Bartow County when a building collapsed.
Eight people went to the Gordon Hospital in Calhoun, Ga. with injuries following the storm, the NBC report quoted officials as saying. The storm also left more than 8,500 power outages statewide.
A 47-year-old man was killed in the storm in Nashville, Tenn. when a tree fell on a shed he was in, reports said.
Storms also struck Mississippi, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Texas and Alabama, among other states.
