Oymyakon, a village with around 500 habitants, is located in Oymyakonsky District of the Sakha Republic, Russia. It is commonly considered the coldest permanently inhabited settlement in the world. The average temperature in January here is around minus 50 degrees Celsius, and the coldest ever temperature recorded in Oymyakon was minus 71.2 degrees Celsius. Oymyakon is located in the area close to the Arctic Circle so the length of a day here varies from 3 hours in December to 21 hours in summer. Nothing grows there so people eat horsemeat and reindeer meat. [Photo/Sina.com]
