An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted South Sandwich Islands region at 11:28 a.m. Beijing Time Tuesday. [CENC]

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted South Sandwich Islands region at 11:28 a.m. Beijing Time Tuesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter, with a depth of 40 km, was initially determined to be at 58.9 degrees south latitude and 24.5 degrees west longitude.
