A massive landslide that cut off a highway link between Georgia and Russia has claimed the lives of four people so far, authorities said Sunday.
A total of 164 people have been rescued from a northern border area affected by Saturday's landslide, while at least five others were still listed as missing as they had been trapped in their motor vehicles, Georgia's emergency management agency told reporters.
Of the dead, three are Turkish nationals working on the construction site of a hydropower plant and the other one is a Ukrainian.
Most of the people rescued from the landslide area are customs personnel serving the Larsi mountain pass over the Major Caucasus Mountain Range and villagers dwelling in nearby areas.
According to the emergency management agency, the Georgia-Russia customs checkpoint will be re-opened as soon as rescue operation completes.
