Heavy rain and thunderstorms led to flooding and traffic disruption in part of the Netherlands on Monday.

The Dutch weather institute KNMI issued a code orange warning for extreme weather on Monday, with heavy rain in some provinces causing flooding of streets, basements and tunnels.

In several places an extreme amount of rain was recorded.

In the center of Gelderland most flooding was visible, with the city of Deelen suffering from 76 mm in an hour, an amount usually for a whole month in this area.

In many places, quantities of more than 100 mm of rain fell down.

Several roads were closed, even a highroad around Amsterdam. Amsterdam public transport also suffered problems from the flooding water in the streets.

Flights to and from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport were delayed in the morning, while train traffic was delayed during the day on several places.
