Three people were killed and 11 others missing as sever rainstorms on Sunday and Monday brought landslides to southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
Twenty-seven coal miners in Yunyang County were hit by a landslide as they were transferring from their dormitory to a safe location at around 7 a.m. Monday, according to an official with the county's publicity bureau.
Twelve were buried and only one had been rescued by 10:30 a.m.
Up to 300 mm of rain drenched several townships in Yunyang, damaging 3,000 hectares of crops and forcing the evacuation of more than 5,000 people.
The weather has caused direct economic losses of 68 million yuan (11 million U.S. dollars).
Rescue and relief work is under way in the affected areas.
