At least 16 people were killed and several others injured in two separate rain-related accidents in Pakistan's eastern province of Punjab on Sunday, local media reported.

Express TV said that eight children were killed and over 15 people injured when a roof collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Hafizabad city of Punjab.

The injured people have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

In another accident in Multan district, a bridegroom and seven wedding guests were killed when their boat capsized in flood water.

Police said that there were over 25 people at the boat on which the groom and wedding guests were going to the bride's house for wedding.

The rescue teams have recovered eight bodies and 10 injured people while the search for the remaining people still continues.

Divers from Pakistan Navy are also taking part in the rescue operation.

The current monsoon rains have flooded many small and big rivers in Punjab due to which over 2 million people have been affected, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

In a statement, the NDMA said Saturday that the rains and floods have killed 280 people and injured more than 500 in Pakistan so far.

The statement said that rescuers have evacuated 276,681 people from flood-hit areas and aerial monitoring is being done through helicopters.
