Successive days of rainfall that triggered flooding and landslides have inflicted damage on more than 850 houses, 240 commercial buildings, and 18 schools and kindergartens in Slovenia.
More than 3,000 firefighters, disaster relief workers and soldiers have been mobilized to combat floods and provide disaster relief in the flooded areas, according to sources from the Civil Protection and Disaster Relief Administration.
Heavy rains for successive days have swollen rivers in eastern Slovenia, in particular the watersheds of the Krka River and the Sava, the longest river in Slovenia.
Kostanjevica, a riparian town 95 km southeast of Ljubljana, is one of the areas worst hit by flooding where some 50 homes were inundated with one-meter deep water.
Apart from property losses, at least one person was reportedly killed and another one missing when their car plunged into a stream due to the collapse of river banks near Vransko, some 50 km north-east of Ljubljana.
