A wild leopard, or panthera pardus, was photographed by an infrared camera set up by researchers in Changdu Prefecture in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region.
Scientists speculated that the adult leopard is about 1.4 meters long, and has a tail up to 90 centimeters.
The leopard is the first-class protected animals in China. It is listed as "near threatened" on the IUCN Red List because it is declining in large parts of its range due to habitat loss and fragmentation, and hunting for trade and pest control.
