A 5.3-magnitude quake hit off Japan' s Fukushima Prefecture at around 10:51 a.m. local time Thursday, without triggering tsunami alerts, according to Japan's Meteorological Agency.

The epicenter was initially determined at 37.3 degrees north latitude, 141.6 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 40 km, said the agency.

The quake was registered at level 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of Fukushima and moderate tremor was felt in Tokyo.

There were no immediate reports on damage and injuries. No abnormalities were found in nuclear power plants in the prefecture, according to local reports.

A disastrous earthquake and tsunami hit the prefecture in March 2011 and triggered the world's worst nuclear crisis since the Chernobyl disaster due to a meltdown of reactors in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
