New snow showers on Sunday blanketed New York City, which began the first day of March in a state of madness, including massive flight cancellations in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut and slippery roads Monday morning.

According to flight aware website, 633 flights have been canceled and 572 flights delayed in the three airports of John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark International Airport by 4:45 p.m., local time.

NYC Emergency Management has issued a travel advisory for Sunday and Monday morning rush.

U.S. national weather reports say the travel nightmare was caused by winter storm Sparta, which was also blamed for at least four deaths on road accidents. Poor travel conditions and accidents because of icy weather were also reported in North Carolina early Sunday morning. Similar dangerous travel conditions were also reported in the Mid-Atlantic region, including the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The storm will continue to bring snow and ice to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region into Sunday evening. Winter storm warnings have been issued for parts of the Mid-Atlantic into Monday morning.
