Macao's panda pavilion in Seac Pai Van Park of Coloane island is about to close from May 26 to 31 to make full preparation for greeting the move-in of the new pair of giant pandas, the city's Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau said in press release Friday evening.

During the closed period, the staff will conduct intensive cleaning and disinfection, and opening rehearsals, meanwhile the facility will be updated to provide visitors with better explanation services.

In order to avoid excessive stress and make the giant panda pair adapt to the new environment, giant panda pavilion will set limit for the number of visitors between June 1 to 30. There will be six sessions daily for tourists to visit in batches, each batch restricted amount of tickets of 50-100 with 10 minutes visiting time.

The panda pair, arrived in Macao on April 30, will meet the public on June 1 after 30-day quarantine on Oscar Farm in Coloane.

Specialist Yang Zhi from Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding told reporters earlier that the panda pair were in stable condition after a two-hour flight from Sichuan Province. Two vets from the Macao had spent some time in Chengdu to bond with the new pandas, and pandas seemed to have better appetite for Guangdong bamboo here.

A male panda, No.726, and a female, No.667, were chosen from 55 candidates following a three-month selection. The pandas, both 110 kg in weight, are also named Kaikai and Xinxin. The former Kaikai and Xinxin came to Macao as gifts for the celebration of the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to China. Xinxin died of kidney failure in June last year, which shocked and saddened the Macao people.

Chinese President Xi Jinping said the central government will present a new pair of giant pandas to the Macao SAR and wished " they would grow up healthily and bring happiness to Macao people" when he visited Macao in December 2014.
