Seven people in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria died on Sunday due to the windy and rainy weather, state media reported.

Six people were killed when an electric cable fell on them due to the strong winds in Moharam Bek district near the tram, according to government-run Ahram online.

The seventh person was killed in Sidi Bishr district after a lamppost fell on him in the midst of heavy rains and strong winds, according to the website.

The coastal cities of Alexandria and Beheira as well as Sinai Peninsula have witnessed heavy rains since the early hours of Sunday.

Temperatures dropped considerably in Egypt on Sunday, with winds and rain in most governorates in Egypt, including Cairo.

Egypt's meteorological authority said the weather is expected to remain unstable until Tuesday.
