Adjust font size:
Sergey Filimonov of Kazakhstan lifted a world record weight in the snatch en route to winning the men's 77kg category weightlifting gold medal at the 14th Asian Games Friday afternoon.

Filimonov, who snatched 173kg for a new world record, jerked 202.5 for winning total of 375kg.

Barkhah Mohammad had the silver at 362.5 and his teammate Nejad Falahati took the bronze at 350.

In the snatch, Filimonov smashed the world record only shortly before China's Li Hongli tied the new mark.

Filimonov lifted 173kg in his third snatch attempt, eclipsing the previous one of 172.5kg set by Plamen Zhelyazkov of Bulgaria this year in Doha of Qatar.

Li Hongli also lifted that weight in his third attempt, but the Chinese medal hopeful failed three lifts in the clean and jerk.
