Shooting: China Contiues Gold Medal Haul

The all-dominating Chinese sharpshooters continued their gold medal haul in the Asian Games, winning four out of six on offers Thursday.

In the men's 10-meter running target team event, the Chinese trio of Yang Ling, Zeng Guobin and Niu Zhiyuan combined for a total of 1,720 points, four points higher than the previous Asian Games record, to claim the first gold medal for China today.

South Korea finished second at 1,739 with Kazakhstan at 1,739 points.

In the women's rifle prone team event, the Chinese team of ShanHong, Gao Jing and Wang Xian shot for 1,778 points in the women's rifle prone team event, the same with their South Korea rivals. But the South Koreans claimed the gold with a better round results while the Chinese trio had to settle for a silver medal.

Lee Mi-kyung of South Korea also won a silver medal for her country in the individual event of rifle prone with 596 points. The gold medal went to Glga Dovgun of Kazakhstan who shot 597 points and equaled the world record.

The women's 25-meter sports pistol again witnessed superb performance from Chinese shooters as Tao Luna, Cheng Jing and Li Duihong shot down the previous world record with 1,768 points.

The former record, 1,764 points, was set by former Soviet Union team at European Championships in 1989.

"I didn't expect to break the world record," said Xu Haifeng, head coach of Chinese shooting team, "I am just not ready for that."

China's supremacy remained unchallenged in the individual events in the afternoon as both golds of women's pistol and men's 10 meters running target events were taken by the Chinese.

Chen Ying scored 693.6 points to grab her second gold medal in the day while triple gold medalist Tao Luna, who won two golds on women's air pistol on Thursday, placed second with 690.9 points. Gundegmaa Otryad from Mongolia claimed third, 686.7 points.

In the men's 10 meters running target individual final, Niu Zhiyuan won the gold with 676.4, barely edging South Korean Her Dae-Kyung who shot 673.7 points. Double Olympic medalist Yang Ling finished third with 669.9.
