Igaly Wins First Shooting Gold for Hungary

Diana Igaly of Hungary won her country's first gold medal at the shooting range of the Athens Olympics while she was crowned at the women's skeet on Thursday.

Igaly, who finished top of the qualification round with 72 out of 75 clay targets, made a perfect display in the 25-target final to win the gold with 97 hits.

Chinese shooter Wei Ning won the silver and Zemfina Meftakhetdinova of Azerbaijan the bronze.

Wei, who finished third after the qualification with 70 hits, scored 23 out of 25 targets to catch up Meftakhetdinova after the final.

And Wei, the title winner of Athens World Cup in April at the same shooting range, defeated Meftakhetdinova in the shoot-off 2-1to grab her first medal at the Olympics.

Meftakhetdinova, who won the gold at 2000 Sydney Olympics, only made one hit in the shoot-off and could not defend the title her won at the 2000 Sydney Olympics
