China Aims to Greatly Boost Aviation Industry

Chinese Vice-Premier Zeng Peiyan called for technological breakthroughs in key areas to make China a global power in aviation industry.

He made the remarks at a meeting in Beijing Monday to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the founding of China's aviation industry.

China's aviation industry has grown into an important sector with relatively complete manufacturing and research systems and has made significant contribution to the national economic construction, Zeng said.

The vice-premier said China aims to greatly boost its aviation industry during the 11th Five-Year Guidelines period (2006-2010).

For this purpose, he urged the industry to pursue new breakthroughs in frontier and key technologies and to work out proper mechanism for attracting more high-quality talents and boosting the aviation enterprises through reforms.

The meeting was hosted by the China Aviation Industry Corporation.
