Leaders mourn death of Deng Xiaoping's wife

Zhuo Lin, widow of China's late leader Deng Xiaoping, died of illness in Beijing on July 29 at the age of 93 and cremated in Beijing on Monday.

Zhuo, a former consultant of the Central Military Commission General Office, was "an excellent Communist Party of China (CPC) member and time-honored loyal communist fighter," said a statement issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

Chinese leaders and former statemen including Hu Jintao, Jiang Zemin, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang attended her cremation ceremony, which was held Monday morning at the hall of the Beijing Babaoshan Cemetery.

Zhuo died of illness at 12:30 p.m. on July 29 after medical treatment failed.

Born in Xuanwei county of southwestern Yunnan Province in April, 1916, Zhuo Lin joined the CPC in 1938.

Zhuo accompanied Deng to work in the Xinjian county tractor repair workshop in eastern Jiangxi Province in October 1969.

In January 1978, she was appointed a consultant of the Central Military Commission General Office. She served as a deputy to the fourth and fifth National People's Congress and was awarded the Independence Merit Medal from the People's Liberation Army in 1988.
