The Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone has emerged as a preferred destination for multinational companies entering the Chinese market. As a hub for Anhui province's open economy, the zone leverages its strengths in industrial synergy and its globalized service ecosystem. A number of foreign-funded enterprises have established a presence and increased investments here, while joint ventures are also clustering in the zone, supporting key sectors such as automotive parts, electronic information, and biomedicine.
Continental Tire's Hefei plant, a wholly foreign-owned production base and the first of its kind in China for the German Continental Group, has carried out four phases of expansion in the zone since its launch, with cumulative investment exceeding 1 billion euros (US$1.17 billion). Upon reaching full capacity in 2027, the facility is expected to produce nearly 18 million tires for passenger vehicles and light trucks annually. It is expected to serve as a hub for the Group's operations in China and the Asia‑Pacific region, and stand as a testament to long‑term confidence in the zone's development potential.
Edscha, another German auto‑parts maker, has been operating its automotive component company in the zone for over 20 years. The facility has grown into one of Gestamp Group's larger and more stable production bases in the Asia‑Pacific region, specializing in manufacturing automotive door hinges and other components. According to a company representative, driven by rapid business growth, the firm is making progress on a new project in the zone, which is expected to generate an annual output worth about 1.96 billion yuan (US$280.93 million) at full capacity.
The sustained investment by foreign enterprises is supported by the zone's comprehensive service system. The zone provides enterprises with full‑cycle, closed‑loop services covering site selection, financing, construction support, and scenario matching. The zone has also established the Linxi Community, Anhui's first international community offering comprehensive, high‑quality amenities to global talent, including a hospital equipped with proton and heavy ion therapy, an international medical center for women and children, premium educational resources, and upscale commercial complexes.
Currently, foreign‑invested enterprises such as ULVAC, a coating technology company, are growing steadily, while Sino‑foreign joint ventures such as Biohit Healthcare and CereSoft are also accelerating their agglomeration. Leveraging the innovation network formed by national‑level R&D platforms and high‑tech enterprises in the zone, both foreign‑funded and joint‑venture firms can quickly integrate into the local industrial and innovation chains, achieving mutual reinforcement between their own growth and the zone's industrial upgrading. Today, the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone is attracting increasing global resources with its open attitude and robust ecosystem, thereby contributing to high‑standard opening‑up and high‑quality development.
