A 3.5-kilometer road known as "Quantum Avenue" in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone has become a major global cluster for the quantum industry. This stretch has given birth to landmark achievements such as the quantum science satellite Mozi, the 2,000-kilometer quantum communication line between Beijing and Shanghai, and the Jiuzhang photonic quantum computer. It has also attracted leading enterprises including QuantumCTek, Origin Quantum, and CIQTEK, forming a comprehensive quantum industrial ecosystem.
According to a report on the Global Future Industry Index released by the international tech consultancy ICV TA&K in 2025, Hefei's quantum industry ranks second globally in overall strength. Among the four Chinese quantum companies that made the global top 20, three hail from the Quantum Avenue, highlighting the area's international competitiveness. The Quantum Industry Pilot Zone, centered around the Quantum Avenue, continues to expand, serving as a core platform for Hefei's ambition to become a global hub for quantum science and industry.
Computing power serves as the engine for industrialization. In January 2026, the Hefei Quantum-Supercomputer Hybrid Computing Center commenced operations, offering diversified quantum computing services worldwide. As one of the constructors, Origin Quantum deployed a 180+ qubit superconducting quantum computer in the center, with overall performance reaching internationally advanced levels. Leveraging its independently developed "Origin Pilot" quantum-supercomputer hybrid operating system and the VQNet programming framework, and integrated with the Chaohu Mingyue supercomputing scheduling system, the platform enables efficient synergy between quantum and classical computing resources.
The growth of Origin Quantum exemplifies the zone's efforts in cultivating innovation ecosystem. To accelerate the commercialization of research outcomes, the zone has established connections with research institutions such as the University of Science and Technology of China. Through on-site services and list-based management, it provides comprehensive support including space, policies, and funding. Focusing on upstream gaps in the quantum industry chain, the zone has prioritized attracting firms specializing in key components such as ultra-low temperature freezers and superconducting magnets. In 2025, 13 new quantum enterprises were added, bringing the total number of quantum industrial-chain enterprises in the zone to 81, accounting for 81% of Anhui province's total.
Commercialization is the goal of the industry development. China Telecom Quantum Group, which settled in the zone in 2023, unveiled the world's first distributed cryptographic system integrating quantum key distribution and post-quantum cryptography, and launched application products such as Quantum Secret and Quantum Cloud Seal. Its self-developed Tianyan quantum computing cloud platform has been integrated with meteorological observation equipment to provide precise predictive computing support for Anhui's meteorological department.
To address challenges in practical application, the zone has identified scenario demands in areas such as government affairs, finance, and healthcare, implemented an initiative integrating innovation and scenario application, and established a collaborative mechanism involving goverment departments, the computing center, and companies. The zone has also introduced a subsidy program, offering quantum computing vouchers to support enterprises in using quantum cloud platforms for R&D in fields such as artificial intelligence and biopharmaceuticals.
From fundamental research to industrial application, the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone has achieved full-process integration of the quantum innovation chain. This 3.5-kilometer Quantum Avenue, with its sound ecosystem and internationally leading technological achievements, is becoming an indispensable force in the global quantum industry landscape.
