Egypt to present final version of Palestinian reconciliation
Adjust font size:

Egypt has finished preparing its written final version of the Palestinian reconciliation and will present it to the Palestinians factions, a Palestinian daily quoted a well-informed Egyptian source as saying on Monday.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told al-Quds newspaper published in east Jerusalem that Egypt intends to present its version to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and other factions, including rival Fatah and Hamas.

Since September, Egypt has held a series of separate bilateral talks with leaders of 13 factions, including Fatah and Hamas, to examine their views concerning the dialogue, reconciliation and end of the political split.

The source confirmed that after Egypt briefs Abbas on the prepared proposals, it would present it to Hamas and Fatah leaders, who are scheduled to meet on Oct. 25.

The Egyptian plan that would be presented to the leaders of the factions includes proposals on forming a new Palestinian government, preparing for elections, reforming the security forces and rebuilding the Palestinian Liberation Organization.

The source told the Palestinian daily that Cairo has asked both Fatah and Hamas to stop immediately the mutual political arrests of both factions' leaders in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and stop their campaigns of incitement.

Meanwhile, chief of Fatah delegation to the dialogue in Cairo Nabil Shaath said Fatah movement has not decided yet to hold bilateral negotiations with Hamas movement, who insists that the dispute is only between the two groups.
