希望工程是中国青少年发展基金会于1989年发起实施的一项社会公益事业。援建希望小学与资助贫困学生是希望工程实施的两大主要公益项目。在过去20年中，希望工程收到捐款40 亿（586万美元），资助了三百万学生，援建了14000座希望小学。它还为改善办学条件和师资培训提供资金。中国科技促进发展研究中心1999年的一份报告显示，全国29个省会城市中超过63.5%的人以各种方式参与了希望工程。

Project Hope, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this October, has raised 4 billion yuan (US$5.86 million), financed the education of 3 million students and built 14,000 primary schools. It also has provided funding for structural and technological improvements and teacher training. And according to a 1999 report by the National Research Center for Science and Technology Development, more than 63.5 percent of people in 29 provincial capital cities have contributed to Project Hope in some way.
