China private jet market booms
As the Chinese economy expands, the government is loosening control of the aviation industry and adopting a more open attitude to private jets. Industry insiders predict that China is set to become the fastest growing market for business jets in the world. "There were no private jets in China two years ago, but over the next 10 years, the market will grow at an annual rate of 20-25%," said Michael Walsh, CEO of Asia Jet, the biggest seller of private jets in Asia, Dongfang Daily reported.

The report said major clients of business jets in China are government departments, global top 500 companies, big private enterprises and showbiz stars. According to the Fortune 2010 Hurun Report, as of 2009, China had 875,000 multimillionaires and 55,000 billionaires. A survey found that half of the super-rich plan to buy yachts, and one in six aspire to own private jets.

※ Background: Strict aviation controls have created a huge gap between China's aviation industry and those of developed countries. Publicly available information shows that, as of 2009, the US had over 230,000 general aircraft, 743 for every 1 million people, and 16,800 airports. Information from the Civil Aviation Administration of China shows that in 2009, China had 997 general aircrafts, just 0.5 for every 1 million people, and only 70 airports.
Mystery trader cuckoo for Europe's cocoa

The Telegraph reported someone or some group completed the largest single cocoa trade in 14 years yesterday. The purchase of 241,000 tons of cocoa beans shifted the entire global cocoa market and sent the price to its highest level since 1977. The cocoa beans are equivalent to the entire supply of the commodity in Europe. They are worth £658 million. Since 2007, the price of cocoa has almost doubled. Yesterday alone, the price rose 0.7%.

Women 'drive' men nervous

According to a study, one in three men doesn't feel safe when their female partner drives, the Daily Mail reported yesterday. Some men deal with the anxieties by stepping on an imaginary brake pedal while in the passenger seat and others simply cling to the passenger seat or door. Two of the men's biggest complaints were that women were easily distracted and that they didn't brake early enough.
