Homer Simpson is Catholic

The official Vatican newspaper, Osservatore Romano, has declared that Homer Simpson and his son Bart of the American animated TV series "The Simpsons" are Catholics and that parents should not be afraid to let their children watch "the adventures of the little guys in yellow," Reuters reports. The newspaper cited a study by a Jesuit priest of a 2005 episode called "The Father, the Son and the Holy Guest Star." That study concluded that "The Simpsons" is "among the few TV programs for kids in which Christian faith, religion and questions about God are recurrent themes."

'Avatar' language gains popularity

The Na'vi language from last year's blockbuster "Avatar" is fast garnering popularity, with online communities springing up to teach it and a recent U.S. invitation-only convention garnering avid fans from as far as Europe, Sydney Morning Herald reports. It has even been picked up by television-musical phenomenon "Glee," which sparked debates in Na'vi forum comments. A free iPhone and iPad App for Na'vi learning was released last week. Websites with the so-called "concise Na'vi dictionary" and "Na'vi in a nutshell" have succeeded in splitting "Avatar" fans into two schools of thought. The language's creator, Paul Frommer, said he did not underestimate the power of the Internet in fuelling people's desire to learn the language.

It is hard to withdraw

The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China refused to allow a woman to withdraw money from an account her mother-in-law opened 33 years ago, Chengdu Evening News reports. The woman, surnamed Huang, had a handwritten deposit form indicating that Tang Yulian had deposited 400 yuan into a People's Bank of China account at the Niushikou office in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, in 1977. The bank has since been taken over by ICBC. ICBC's Sichuan branch said it was difficult to find deposit records made more than 30 years ago, when lists were recorded by hand, but they will make a final reply within three days. Huang could receive a total of 895 yuan based on interest calculations from 1977.
