Malls and department stores are losing favour among Beijing shoppers. Savvy consumers have cottoned on to discount stores, online shops and supermarket specials to help save a buck.

Questions one: where do you usually buy your shoes?

For Beijing girl Miss Jia, the answer is anywhere but department stores.

She recently fell in love with discount stores, where her favorite boots are half the price.

Miss Jia, Consumer in Beijing said "To buy off-season goods, nowhere is better than discount stores. The price is lower."

Discounts stores like this are usually on the outskirts of the city. But it's definitely worth the drive, for discounts of up to 90 percent.

Question two: where do you buy your clothes?

If you answered online, then you probably saved a pretty penny. And you're not alone. Over the New Year holiday, 140-thousand sweaters were sold in one of China's largest online stores.

And question three: where can you get cheap electronic products?

Jin Xin, Sales Manager of Supermarket said "We have 10 to 50 percent of discount for group purchase customers."
