Shandong facing severe drought
山东大旱小麦告急

One of the worst droughts in 200 years is ravaging Shandong Province and jeopardizing winter wheat production, Xinhua reports.

据新华社电，山东省目前正遭遇200年一遇的大旱，省内冬小麦生产面临严重危机。

The province has seen only 12 millimetres of rain since September last year. The four-month drought has affected 6.4 million hectares of farmland in eight provinces throughout the country, accounting for 35.1% of the wheat land and 21.7% of its total farmland, the Ministry of Agriculture announced Monday.

自去年9月，山东降水量仅为12毫米。农业部周一表示，持续四个月的大旱已影响到全国八省9611万亩（640万公顷）农田，受灾面积占八省冬小麦种植面积的35.1%，占八省耕地面积的21.7%。

On Friday the central government announced a grade II emergency in eight drought-hit provinces, including Shandong, mandated daily damage reports and sent experts and relief materials to affected wheat growing areas.

中央政府上周五已在包括山东在内的8个受旱省份启动II级应急措施，24小时监控气象条件和受灾情况，并已向产粮地区派送出专家和救灾物资。
