Multi-story car parks, a solution for parking problem or not

During recent weeks, a hike in parking fees has attracted attention and debate in Beijing. But actually, where to park is a long existing problem troubling drivers in the capital. Multi-storey car parks may be a solution. But still, it's not welcomed by everyone. Ren Ting takes a look.

A green light means there is still space inside. Drive in and push this button. Everything is done. It's particularly welcomed by new drivers.

Driver said, "It's very convenient. I'm a new driver. I'm not confident about my parking skills. It's much more easier this way. "

The parking structure has five storeys, with two underground, making space for almost all cars in this residential area.

Wang Guohua, General Manager of Tianma Huayuan Parking Equipment Company, said, "The parking structure covers an area of 500 square meters. It can hold 162 cars. Without it, there's only space for 36 cars. "

Such a multi-story car park is easily accepted here. But in some parts of the city, it's a different story.

This space was prepared for building a multi-story car park. But the plan met with strong opposition from nearby residents.

Resident said, "If there's a fire. Fire engines can park here. And we can gather here. If there's a parking structure, we have nowhere to go if there's an emergency."

It's difficult to find a parking space. And it seems no easy either to find space for a parking structure. For city planners, there's still more work ahead.
