Teddy bear ransom: thousands of cupcakes

The teddy bear 'Lost' poster -- and the ransom note.

The teddy bear 'Lost' poster -- and the ransom note.

Kidnappers have demanded 6,000-pounds-worth of cakes to return 2-year-old Donovan Bortner-Palmer's lost teddy bear, UK's Metro reported.

The unusual ransom demand came after Donovan's mother Susannah made posters offering baked treats if "Mr. Bear" was returned to her son after he lost the toy in a playground a month ago.

A note was placed over one poster -- which was put up in Brooklyn, New York -- demanding thousands of cakes ("gluten free, no peanuts") for his return.

But Bortner said, "If I thought [the ransom] was real and I had some evidence that Mr. Bear really was being held hostage, I would do my best to meet their demands."

The "ransom note" calls for Donovan to "come alone" when she brings the cakes to the park, and if their demands are not met the bear will "go into the washer-no gentle cycle."
