Google's surprise announcement yesterday that it will acquire Motorola's handset business, Motorola Mobility, for US$12.5 billion led to speculation on the old cell phone giant's operations, the Forbes reports. 据福布斯网站报道,谷歌昨日突然宣布以125亿美元的价格收购摩托罗拉的手机业务——摩托罗拉移动,这引发业界对昔日手机大佬运行状况的猜测。
Although the company has no obvious financial troubles, its smartphone shipments in its largest home market of North America had slipped in comparison to last year. The average selling price for its devices dropped to US$221 from US$229. 尽管摩托罗拉的财政状况尚可,但它在北美最大市场——本土美国的智能手机销售额相比去年却大幅下滑。其产品的平均售价也从229美元降到221美元。
Motorola also lacked a strong lineup of 4G/LTE phones at a time when the mobile industry seemed fixated on this faster wireless technology 在整个手机行业已确定向更快的无线科技方向发展的情况下,摩托罗拉在4G手机研发生产方面却缺乏后劲。

To make matters worse, its entire lineup of products is facing fierce competition from international and domestic brands in its largest market -- China.
