Sherlock Holmes: 'Bromance' is back by year end

Robert Downey Jr. is back as the world's top amateur detective. The star reunites with Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and director Guy Ritchie for "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows", the follow up to the 2009 hit "Sherlock Holmes". As with other Ritchie budd flicks, this film has also been branded as a "Bromance".

The yin and yang of detective partnerships, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson have once again returned to the big screen, in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." It sees Watson and Holmes take on the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty. The dangerous investigation leads the pair out of London and across Europe in their hunt for the evil professor. The sequel to 2009's "Sherlock Holmes" reunites the eccentric, disguise-loving supersleuth and his longsuffering stalwart of a partner.

Both of the leading actors said they were careful to avoid a failing sequel.

Robert Downey Jr. said, "I think er, look, people who talk about, you know, chemistry and what does that really mean. We were just having lunch, just still trying to figure it out and really grateful that it comes across that way. We work really hard, we have an immense respect for each other, and um, and we've also seen, certain of us have been in, sequels that sucked and we wanted to really kind of try to, you know, avoid, avoid those pitfalls."

Jude Law said, "I think also, no matter how happy and harmonious and creative the first film was as a group, I think it's always true to say that 20 or 30 per cent of a film is always taken up at the beginning getting to know each other. And that you end on a high, you know, you end learning, knowing how each other works so it never felt like we dropped the ball from the first to the second, we never assumed we were going to make a second but there was a lot of energy carried from the first into the second and certainly a lot of enthusiasm for a relationship, relationships that worked, and we wanted to flesh out a little more."

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace, who gained international fame in the Swedish film, "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," joins the cast playing a mystery Gypsy named Sim. Sim is her first English-speaking role and getting involved in the team was an amazing experience for Repace.

Noomi Rapace said, "It felt like I was invited into and amazing opportunity to work with people that I'd been admiring and you know, whose work I'd been watching for many, many years, so it felt like it was much more about the people in it. Um and then also to, to get the opportunity to play a gypsy."

Directed by Guy Ritchie, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" hits cinemas in the UK and US, on Friday December the 16th.
