A 43-year-old man Gary Allen Banning in North Carolina died Tuesday after drinking gasoline and lighting a cigarette, Yahoo reported.

According to police, Banning accidentally drank from a salsa jar containing gasoline at a friend's apartment, spitting it out and getting it on his clothes. He later lit the cigarette that ignited his clothes.

"It was just a freak incident," said W.K. Preslar, an investigator with the Havelock Police Department.

Preslar said Banning's friend was a mechanic and used gasoline to remove grease from his hands. The carpet where Banning was standing was "charred," Preslar added.

男子错喝汽油导致自焚

       据雅虎新闻网报道，周二，一名来自美国北卡罗来纳州的43岁男子加里·艾伦·班宁被活活烧死，原因是他喝了汽油并点燃了香烟。

       据警方称，班宁当时在朋友家中，他偶然错饮了装在调味汁罐子里的汽油，随即吐了出来，洒到了衣服上。随后，他点了一支烟，不料却引燃了自己的衣服。

       “这真是一桩很诡异的意外事件”，调查此案的哈夫洛克警局的警察称。

       班宁的朋友普瑞斯拉是一名技师，他经常用汽油来去掉手上的油漆。普瑞斯拉表示，班宁站的那块地毯也被烧焦了。
