The article says that in a bilingual's brain, both language systems are active even when only one language is being used, thus creating what in linguistics is called 'interference.'

But researchers have recently found out that under these circum stances, the brain is forced to resolve its internal conflict and therefore gives the mind a workout that strengthens its cognitive muscles.
