Mission and Vision
The mission of the Palace Museum is to preserve and promote the authenticity and integrity of fine traditional Chinese culture it carries in a responsible manner, with a vision to build the Palace Museum into a world-class institution, a model for cultural heritage protection globally, a pacesetter in the integration of culture and tourism, and a Chinese cultural parlor for exchange and mutual learning among civilizations.
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Palace Museum has set guidelines of "putting protection first, strengthening management, exploring cultural value, promoting effective utilization, and bringing relics to life" throughout its operations.
To build a safe, academic, digital, and dynamic museum, the Palace Museum has improved nine management systems: security management, high-tech relics protection, academic research, digital museum services, open services, exhibition organization, inheritance and transformation, talent support, and administrative guarantees. All of these are pointed at ensuring realization of the aforesaid vision.

故宫博物院以真实完整地保护并负责任地传承弘扬故宫承载的中华优秀传统文化作为自己的使命。以将故宫博物院建成国际一流博物馆、世界文化遗产保护的典范、文化和旅游融合的引领者与文明交流互鉴的中华文化会客厅作为自己的愿景。
故宫博物院以习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想为指导，深入落实“保护第一、加强管理、挖掘价值、有效利用、让文物活起来”的文物工作要求，以“平安故宫、学术故宫、数字故宫、活力故宫”建设为支撑，健全完善故宫博物院管理九大体系，即安防管理体系、文物科技保护体系、学术科研体系、数字故宫体系、开放服务体系、展陈体系、传承转化体系、人才支撑体系和行政保障体系，勇担使命，确保四个愿景的实现。
