Editor's note:

In an effort to build stronger leadership and better govern the country, Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled his new political theory, the "Four Comprehensives," namely, to comprehensively build a moderately prosperous society, deepen reform, implement the rule of law and enforce strict party discipline.

The theory not only impacts China domestically but also positively impacts other countries. Here we have invited several foreign senior fellows at the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China to share their views on the "Four Comprehensives" with China.org.cn's readers.

'Four Comprehensives' pillars of Xism

John Ross, Former Director of the Department of Economic and Business Policy of London

The "Four Comprehensives" show the way the "Chinese Dream" is not to remain in the mind but is to be turned into reality. A view from outside China of this has the disadvantage that it cannot see details, but the corresponding advantage that it forces a focus on fundamentals. Chinese readers may therefore find it useful to know why the "Four Comprehensives" created such discussion interest – forming an analysis which might be termed "Xism."

Xi's 'Four Comprehensives' and their impact on Asia

Umar Juoro, Chairman of Center for Information and Development Studies (CIDES) in Jakata, Indonesia

All eyes, both domestic and international, are looking to the implementation of President Xi's "Four Comprehensives." Even critics admit to the possibility of its success if certain measures are taken seriously. China will certainly attempt to boost its potential for success while minimizing any potential for disruptions.

Note on the 'Four Comprehensives'

R. Martin Lees, Former Secretary General, Club of Rome, UK

Each of the "Four Comprehensives" will address a specific challenge facing China today and, taken together, they will provide a coherent strategy to guide China's development onto a more sustainable, stable and secure path for the future.

The Chinese Dream

Carlos Magariños, Chairman of Global Alliance of SMEs, Former UNIDO Director General

President Xi's domestic and international initiatives are encouraging and very welcomed. His "Four Comprehensives" build on the decisions of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee regarding China's reform to give a visible face and a meaningful goal to the efforts and commitment of the Chinese people, embodied in the stimulating definition of the "Chinese Dream."

Views on 'Four Comprehensives'

Dr. Melanie Hart, Director for China Policy, Center for American Progress

I interpret the "Four Comprehensives" as a signal that the Chinese leadership is determined to maintain a forward path along these four objectives and to keep moving forward until all critical goals are achieved, even if the seas become rough at times. From a foreign observer perspective, that is a positive signal.
