Giant gilded Buddha built in Jiangxi

Buddhists kowtow to the giant gilded Buddha – 48 meters high-- Donglin Buddha on Sunday. With an investment of 1 billion yuan ($160 million), the Buddha project was launched in the city of Jiujiang, Jiangxi Province, after getting approved by the State Administration for Religious Affairs in May 2007. The gilt cover is made of 48 kilograms of gold. The abbot of Donglin Temple, Shi Da'an, says that the funds raised came from believers and kindhearted people around the world. He added that access to the temple would be free.
