Editor's note: Imagine losing an arm in an accident when you were young, or having a father incapacitated after a car accident, or falling ill just before the most important exam of your life. Any one of these events could be a devastating experience for most people. But Zhou Jian, a senior college student at Anhui Science and Technology University, survived all of these problems and still manages to embrace life courageously.

Zhou is from a village in the city of Suzhou in Anhui Province and is currently studying agriculture technology education.

Three years ago, Zhou learned about "phoenix painting," a traditional art from Anhui Province, and fell for it instantly. Zhou devoted all his spare time to painting and studied with some local artists to hone his skills. In order to better promote the art, Zhou set up an on-campus exhibition and trade center for phoenix painting in 2013. Zhou hopes that he can promote phoenix painting to the entire province and even the whole country. He especially hopes to introduce the traditional art to more young people.
